Play'n GO was founded in 1997 in Vaxjo, Sweden. The version of the company the world knows today didn't fully emerge until 2004 to 2005, when CEO Johan Tornqvist and the team made the decisive move from subcontracted B2B white-label work into building proprietary games under their own name. The studio's identity crystallised around a single phrase: "Entertainment First." Play'n GO did not adopt these positions when regulators forced them. They adopted them years ahead of schedule.

The studio became one of the first iGaming suppliers to go fully HTML5 mobile-first, abandoning Flash before most rivals had even debated the timeline. Every game they build is designed from scratch for a touchscreen, not retrofitted from desktop. By 2022 they had secured their Ontario AGCO supplier licence on the first day the market opened, April 4, 2022, making their full catalogue available to every AGCO-licensed platform in Canada.
